3. Process for forming an organization-Temporary Officers, By-Laws
The city does not have a formal process to be recognized as a neighborhood association. There were two views last month. Do we become a formal neighborhood association or a group of people who meet and work on issues? Hugh, Kip, and James met and reviewed the by laws. Tonight they gave everyone copies to read. They suggested having sub groups to work on particular issues would be better than area representatives. John suggested getting temporary officers and agree to have by laws by a certain month. John suggested having a board that meets once a month at someone’s home and then have general membership meetings 4 times a year to discuss issues. The Cornwall Neighborhood Association puts out a newsletter. Margaret said her husband; Stephen King, Georgia Pacific Credit Union would be willing to help publish a newsletter. James wondered if we needed to rush ahead to get a newsletter and create too much work. John suggested using email to communicate and get a board going and start working on the issues. David brought papers showing that Sunnyland Neighborhood Association is a registered non-profit with the Secretary of State. David brought the paperwork for reinstatement for $30.00. A discussion continued regarding the make up of the association. James said they talked about having active sub committees. David agreed and volunteered to be the interim chair. Vice-Chair-Theresa Tripp, Secretary-Mary Anne Stuckart, Treasurer-Hugh Conroy. Hugh will track down any funds we have at two different banks.
Discussion on the timeline for bylaws and election of officers. Tim said we need to define what we want to do the next two meetings. Patrick wanted to discuss issues and postpone by-laws discuss. Theresa said she came for particular issue and she said the city wouldn’t listen to us unless we are official organization. The discussion will continue at the next meeting.
4. Representation with Mayor’s Advisory Board
Theresa Tripp is not able to apply at this time. The City would like 3 applications. Hugh Conroy is not interested in serving at this time. John McGarrity briefly described the role of a member of the Mayor’s Advisory Board. He said it took time and was very interesting. Hugh Conroy encouraged anyone interested to apply.
