3. Report on the Mayor’s Neighborhood Advisory Commission-Andrew Connor attended the MNAC-A. Connor said his intent was to share the position with Tom McNutt. He had to apply to attend the meeting and ended up installed as Sunnyland Neighborhood Representative. That wasn’t his intention and he didn’t want to hurt Tom’s feelings. A. Connor is willing to be the representative and attend MNAC. MNAC is working on their code regarding the process for being a member of the MNAC and what is a legitimate organization to send a representative. A. Connor said the Neighborhood Associations have different rules for membership which has caused problems on MNAC. Hugh wondered if the new guidelines only affect the membership on MNAC or to participate in the comprehensive plan. The hospital master plan will be out in late April. A. Connor received a copy of budget and a map showing zoning classifications. Members discussed many issues regarding the comprehensive plan. A. Connor thought that it would be good for the SNA to use the Comprehensive Plan as a focus for our association meetings. The city is redoing all the neighborhood plans and it would be good if we “seized the reins” before city steps in and redoes SN plan. Hugh suggested having a neighborhood meeting with a consultant facilitating Sunnyland residents visualizing what they would like for neighborhood. A. Connor suggested being organized and pro active. J. Hillegas asked what it would look like if we had a WWU consultant. A. Connor and D. Donahue both supported the idea of having the SNA being ahead of the game. H. Conroy gave a history of city’s compressed attempts to train Neighborhood Associations in planning. A. Connor said he needed a second email address for MNAC. H. Conroy said he could give him his email address.
4. Annual Picnic Planning-Susan Adams-Called Parks and Recreation-Memorial Park-Sunday, May 21st-!:00 p.m.
Susan will advertise for the picnic. Sabrina Lynch said she had a 6 foot BBQ. At the picnic SNA would have elections of officers, a Membership Drive, and white board on an easel to write dreams for Sunnyland Neighborhood.
5. Planning for SNA Elections-May 21st at picnic-Nominations at April 25th SNA meeting-Ballots-Nominations will be open at picnic or people can send a signed letter. H. Conroy-SNA needs to elect a Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary and Treasurer and 3 Area Representatives-Area 1 East of James, Area 2 West of James & south of Alabama and Area 3 West of James and north of Alabama and a MNAC representative. J. Hillegas supported mailing a newsletter announcing dates for nominating and elections and list officers. Nominations at April 25th meeting and at May 21st picnic before elections. We will need ballots and a ballot box for picnic.
6. Newsletters-The newsletter will list names of people nominated for offices, a form letter for website, ask for dues with a membership form, and ask dreams for neighborhood. M. Lyons husband said Gpac Credit Union will pay for the newsletter. D. Donahue, T. Tripp, A.Connor will work on the newsletter and get it to Stephan King. The targeted date for mailing is in 2 weeks.
7. Signs for Meetings-J. Hillegas thought signs were expensive. M. Lyons husband, Stephan King, makes signs but the minimum order is 25 and it was expensive. J. Hillegas said he would check out signs. Susan Adams and David Donahue are meeting on Monday, April 3.
8. City Center Design Review District-J. Hillegas said the city is redefining the design code for building size, pedestrian friendly, etc
